Fertilization Applying a balanced fertilizer program is very important to the health of the grass plant.  Jones Turf offers programs using slow release, pre-emergent, soil pH modifiers, such as lime and gypsum, and/or all-natural, organic fertilizers.  Each field's program is tailored to the owner's needs and wants in conjunction with soil test recommendations.

Weed & Insect Control Weed and insect infestation can destroy grass roots and shoots if not treated.  Jones Turf employs PA IPM Pesticide Applicator License holders to apply all weed and insect control.  We offer both preventive and curative applications to withstand pressure from insects, such as grubs, surface feeders, and sub-surface feeders, and weeds, such as crabgrass, broadleaf, and narrow leaf weeds.

Core Aeration & Slit Seeding Decompaction and air exchange through the root-zone are two factors that increase turf density on an athletic field.  During aeration, we use hollow tines to pull cores and reduce thatch, use soild tines to shatter the root-zone providing cracks for roots to grow, and Aerovator tines during seeding tasks.  We also use a Seedavator to slit seed or groove seed wear areas.

Topdressing Incorporating organic matter, biostimulanting composts, and/or sand into the field's rootzone is beneficial to developing a tight field.  Spreading the material using a topdresser or box leveler is based upon the growing habit of the grass on the field.  Also, the material chosen is based upon the existing rootzone composition after a soil core is pulled.

Vertical & Deep Tine Aeration Vertical tine aeration punches cores in the ground with vertical force as opposed to a tow behind unit.  Deep Tine Aeration, such as a Verti-drain or Soil Reliever, punches a hole in the ground to a depth of 8-12 inches depending on soil compaction and moisture.

Winter Cover Installation Winter covers are an integral part of an athletic field maintenance program in the Northeast.  Winter covers, made of wovenTypar, extend the growing season of an athletic field by increasing soil temperature by 10-15 degrees.  Additionally, they keep frost from damaging leaf blades.
